2012 NYE Run

We finished off 2012 with a five night sold-out run of shows at three great venues.  This was the biggest NYE run we had ever done.  I have to admit I was a little concerned that we might not be fully prepared for the shows. With the exception of a single show and a festival appearance the band had been off the road Oct-Dec focusing our energies on studio work.  We managed to squeeze in a day of rehearsal at a Chicago studio following Christmas, but then it was on to the run which would see 10 sets, 12.5 hours of music and 89 songs, playing everything from the oldest Lotus material to never-before-played tracks.  Sure, there were a few hiccups and technical difficulties, but the shows turned out great.

What we heard from fans again and again over the course of the tour (and reasserted in multiple reviews) was the description of a feeling that often grows at a Lotus show.  There is an energy that is very difficult to describe without sounding hyperbolic; words such as community, love, catharsis, tears, beauty, syncronicity are employed.  It seems crazy how often I hear the phrase “changed my life.”  A couple got engaged at one of the shows on this run.  We don’t pretend to take the credit for these waves of emotion or sense of connectedness.  We can attempt to guide it, we can continue to refine our art and explore music composition and improvisation further, but without the passion of the fans it would all add up to very little.  So, before we embark on another massive tour in a couple weeks I want to take this chance to say thank you to all who give us their support and have helped build this ever-growing entity we call Lotus. -Jesse Miller
